Matthew Paull is a gifted pianist and composer whose enchanting piano playing is sure to leave listeners feeling captivated and comforted.
Growing up in New Zealand, he began playing the piano at the young age of 7 and quickly developed a passion for classic piano music. After earning a degree in Jazz Piano performance from the University of Auckland in 2015, he was heavily influenced by Mike Oldfield's album "Tubular Bells," which led him to compose his own songs on the piano and learn to play multiple instruments.Matthew's soothing and gentle piano playing is particularly addictive, weaving a peaceful and lilting sound that is sure to leave listeners feeling calm and relaxed. He left New Zealand to live in Berlin and pursue his career, touring Europe with various bands and playing at major music festivals like Reeperbahn, Open-Flair, and ElbJazz.
His music has been streamed approximately 15 million times to date, appearing on over 5,000 playlists and gaining the affection of a great number of small piano playlists across various DSPs. Matthew's talent was discovered by Welcome to the New World and has enjoyed support on playlists for relaxing, study and meditation.
He has a large following on Instagram, where he shares videos of his music, and has gained the attention of thousands of new followers, including Aloe Blacc. He laid the foundation with his first release ‘Dreamboat’ in October 2020, a melancholic waltz that tells the story of a voyage. Followed by his many other singles like ‘Homecoming’ which got picked up by big piano-themed editorial playlists on Spotify and soon generated over a million streams.
Last year Matthew Paull released his debut album ‘Reminiscence’ The collection of compositions in this album represents a two-year period of his life, in which significant life and career changes took place resulting in the version of himself that is writing this today. With influences from Joe Hisaishi, Debussy, and Brad Mehldau, Matthew has developed his own unique sound in contemporary classic music, his gentle and peaceful piano playing is truly addictive and will leave you wanting more.
